US-based architectural firm Goettsch Partners has designed a new commercial tower for Al Hilal Bank in Abu Dhabi’s Al Maryah Island.

US-based architectural firm Goettsch Partners has designed a new commercial tower for Al Hilal Bank in Abu Dhabi’s Al Maryah Island.

The new 24-storey, 87,570m² office tower will be built in Abu Dhabi’s new central business district, with access to three main island roads.

After completion the new building will have access to adjacent Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Sowwah Square, the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange headquarters and the Rosewood Abu Dhabi hotel.

Goettsch Partners president James Goettsch said that the new tower creates an architectural form, which fits the requirement in the region.

"At the same time, the building offers very efficient floor plates that are atypical in the local market," Goettsch said.

The tower will feature 49,110m² of office and retail space as well as 1,000 parking spaces for tenants and visitors.

The facade of the building will feature an aluminium and glass curtain wall system while notched metal-spandrel elements and vertical glass fins will be installed to enhance the vertical profile and offer shading to the building, Goettsch Partners said.

A floor to ceiling glass facade will offer maximum transparency, providing surrounding views to the occupants while allowing ample daylight into the structure.

Sustainable elements will be incorporated to make it synchronous with the surrounding environment and the building’s design will offer optimised energy performance.

The podium of the tower will feature a retail banking facility and a three-storey transparent lobby to the north, with pedestrian arcades on the east and west.

The western facade of the building will feature a landscaped park and reflecting pool to draw traffic to the retail and main building entrance by creating a shaded urban space.

Three cubical masses that are stacked like shifted blocks will be situated at the top of podium.

Scheduled to complete in the last quarter of 2013, the tower is expected to achieve an Estidama 1 Pearl rating.
